Built for cars, banned for bikes: a UC San Diego campus scene with a cyclist and a parked scooter

Every campus writes rules for micromobility. Far fewer build for it.

The scooter that stays parked is not a lazy student. It is a campus that banned a behavior and never built for it. Three cheap fixes are missing.

Nowhere to park

Few racks or corrals where students actually stop, so devices end up in the way.

Nowhere to charge

No secured charging near the residence halls keeps personal e-devices parked and people in cars.

Restricted zones

The most direct route closes to riders on weekday mornings, and the legal detour is longer and slower.
